SAEGIS CAMPUS WARMLY WELCOME PROFESSOR NALAKA JAYAKODY AS THE VICE CHANCELLOR

Saegis Campus is an iconic leading Non State Higher Education Institute in Sri Lanka, approved by the Ministry of Higher Education. It is located at Nugegoda, Sri Lanka with easy access to all modes of transport. It also delivers degree programmes approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, Sri Lanka.

Recently Saegis Campus appointed renowned Professor (Capt.) Nalaka Jayakody as its new Vice Chancellor/CEO to steer and lead its future growth. Professor Jayakody commenced his preliminary education at St. Paul’s College, Kandy and completed his secondary education at Galahitiyawa Central College Ganemulla. During His tenure he has represented his Alma mater in diverse athletic and sports events at national and international levels.

He started his professional career as an Officer Cadet in 1984, and obtained the second officer Certificate of Competency (COC) from the Australian Maritime College (AMC), Tasmania. He completed the Master Mariner examination at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia and went on to command a vessel. Captain Nalaka Jayakody has sailed to over ninety countries in the world and is recognized as an experienced Mariner.

Having bid farewell to his Maritime career in 1998, Captain Nalaka joined CINEC Maritime Campus as a lecturer, and was promoted to the position of Senior Lecturer, Principal Lecturer, Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, Director, and to the position of Vice President of the Campus. In 2020 he retired from CINEC and Joined Northshore International Campus, as the Vice Chancellor /CEO.

In addition to his earning of his professional qualifications at the highest level, Captain Jayakody successfully continued with his academic qualifications to reach the pinnacle. He completed the Master of Science (MSc) Degree at the World Maritime University, and obtained a Doctorate of Science Degree in Maritime Affairs from Dalian Maritime University. In 2012 the Dalian Maritime University presented him the Professorial Chair, thus making history distinguishing Captain Jayakody as the only Sri Lankan to achieve this triple qualification.

It was his dedication, commitment and perseverance that enabled him to obtain these distinctive credentials.

Professor (Capt.) Nalaka Jayakody has also served the Sri Lanka Association of Non State Higher Education Institutions (SLANHEI) as its President from 2018 to 2020. He possesses wide ranging experience and his impressive portfolio encompasses key leadership positions.

He held the position of Chairman of the Nautical Institute (UK-Sri Lanka Branch) in addition to serving the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) as an advisor who was instrumental in introducing standards for Non-State universities. He has been an Advisor to Export Development Board (EDB) for Professional Services (Education); Board Member of Maritime Training Academy, Seychelles and Fiji Maritime Academy in Fiji, member of the National Task Force- IMO in Implementation of Ballast Water Strategy, Member of the Company of Master Mariner, and was the former Vice Chairman of CILT (UK Sri Lanka Branch), Program Reviewer of University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka, Member of the International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA) Sweden, and he has served a number of prestigious and professional bodies.

In addition, he also contributes to various International Journals with articles which are of high academic interest, and he is a frequent presenter at a variety of National and International conferences and forums.

His outstanding services has been recognized with a number of awards: The Award of Academic Excellence in December 2014 by His Excellency President, Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the International Leadership Innovation Excellence Award’ in July 2019 by IES India, the WMU Outstanding Alumnus Award in November 2020 from World Maritime University- Malmo, Sweden under the United Nation agency making him an exceptional South Asian to receive this prestigious award.
